John and I had never actually met - we’d conversed at the beginning of the year on a local classic car club Facebook page that it transpires that he runs! As you’ll no doubt guess I never made it to a meet thanks to a certain global pandemic - but thanks to the recent lockdown restrictions being relaxed, John kindly offered that I pop up to his and get some shots of his collection, all socially distanced of course! I had no idea what to expect, and boy was I in for a treat! In addition to getting to gawp at John’s impressive collection (and equally impressive workshop/garage) I was regaled with what was probably a snippet of John’s lifelong involvement with motorsport. One story in particular that stood out was of him interviewing Ayrton Senna on the Friday free practice that was at Donington Park Circuit, in 1993, and yes, it was *that* weekend where Ayrton charged through the field from a starting position of fourth to first in the first lap, overtaking Michael Schumacher, Karl Wendlinger, Damon Hill and Alain Prost to take the lead and eventual win. John has also been heavily involved with Caste Combe circuit over the years and has taken a win at Monza in his Frogeye Sprite Lenham GT (that you'll see pictures of here, along with his one of a kind hillclimb MG Midget and his Alfa Romeo Spr Vel Ser 3). I can’t thank John enough for such a great afternoon! Hopefully in the future when things calm down a little more the meets will take place again and I’ll be able to ply John for more amazing stories!
